TYLER O’NEILL: Shannon Cunningham votes every year without fail.

SHANNON CUNNINGHAM: It’s so important to vote because this is the time that you have you know to make a little bit of a choice.

O’NEILL: That’s why she says she brought her son to the polls to start him young on the right track.

CUNNINGHAM: We are teaching my son how important it is to vote.

O’NEILL: Wallen is seven years-old and is going to the ballot box for the first time. So you’re excited

WALLEN CUNNINGHAM: Yes

O’NEILL: Not only does Cunningham share her sense of style with her son, but also her voting wisdom

CUNNINGHAM: If you don’t vote you don’t have a chance to say much.

O’NEILL: She is not the only one in Pompey teaching her kids at a young age.

KRISTEN DOMINGER: My parents will be here later, and they will be bringing my son because he doesn’t have school today and his is a kindergartener.

O’NEILL: But even when kids grow up, parents are still reminding their kids to get out and vote.

STEVE STEINMATZ: I reminded them this morning with a text. They’re in their mid twenties, so sometimes they slip a little bit.

O’NEILL: And of course you can’t forget the “I Voted” sticker, especially if you’re bringing your kids. For N-C-C News I’m Tyler O’Neill.

Pompey, N.Y. (DIA) – Shannon Cunningham woke up early this morning to vote at the Pompey Hill Fire Department Poll. Pompey says she votes every year without fail.

“It’s so important to vote because this is the time that you have you know to make a little bit of a choice,” Cunningham said.

That’s why she says she brought her son to the polls to start him on the right track at a young age.

“We are teaching my son how important it is to vote,” she said.

Wallen Cunningham is seven years old and is going to the ballot box for the first time to learn something from his mother.

“If you don’t vote you don’t have a chance to say much,” Cunningham said.

She is not the only one who was taught as a kid to vote every year. Kristen Dominger of Pompey says her parents always brought her to the ballot box. Now, her parents are bringing their grandkids to the polls.

“My parents will be here later, and they will be bringing my son because he doesn’t have school today and his is a kindergartener.

But even when kids grow up, parents still have to remind their kids to get out and vote. Parent Steve Steinmatz says he is trying to keep his kids in line.

“I reminded them this morning with a text. They’re in their mid-twenties, so sometimes they slip a little bit,” Steinmatz said.

If you bring your kids don’t forget to give them a sticker too.

Polls close at 9 p.m. in New York.
