Voters cast their ballots in Skaneateles

Despite the cold, rainy morning, election inspectors John Gilly and Brad McLennon said voter turnout had been steady in the Village of Skaneateles.

Voters turned to the Skaneateles Fire Hall and Presbyterian Church to cast their votes. Richard Lynch, an 80-year-old attorney with Milford, Lynch and Shannon, voted in favor of incumbent John Katko (R-24).

“I vote for good people, not people in politics for the wrong reasons” he said. “I don’t think [Dana Balter] has any connection to the area, I don’t think she has any connection to the area she’s purporting to represent and I think that she would continue the dangerous agenda that the Democratic party is pursuing at the present time.”

Lynch said the Democratic party is attacking American culture, saying “they are against everything and they aren’t in favor of anything.”

National security and the economy are two important issues to Lynch. He believes China has been taking advantage of the U.S.

“Confronting China, who has been abusing our system for years, is a very important part in this” said Lynch. “Confronting Iran and departing from the treaty is very important. The nickel and dime issues we can take care of ourselves.”

Julia Wamp, a stay at home mom, has been bringing her two teenage children with her to the polls for 15 years, saying that it’s important for her son and daughter to see how the voting process works so they’ll be better equipped to vote in a couple of years.

“I feel like, for me personally, I want to choose the best representative for the problems I agree to change, to make better,” said 14 year old Elizabeth Wamp. “So I feel like coming now, I’ll know what to do in the future.”

As of 10:20 a.m. this morning, the Onondaga County Board of Elections website has been temporarily down. As of Nov. 5, the website stated that there were 108,062 registered Democrats and 82,588 registered Republicans in Onondaga County.
