SYRACUSE, N.Y. (DiA) – It’s Election Day in Central New York as Onondaga County citizens gather at their nearest polling station to cast their vote.
Today, men and women of all ages drive down Taft Road to the Jerome F. Melvin Administrative Office Building. Election Day is unlike any other for those who live Onondaga County, who come to vote for state issues on redistricting, voter registration, and absentee ballots.
For the Head Polling Manager Bob Crabtree, this day is as important as any other.
“Nobody’s come in today with absentee,” said Crabtree as he continues to participate as a volunteer on electon days since 2008. He’s proud to be the first face that voters see when they walk through the double doors.
The reason behind helping voters is, “because they just believe in democracy and they vote for the privilege of voting. And my goal is I would love to see 18 year olds to 30 year olds vote and I don’t know how to increase that.
For today, Bob will continue to help his fellow neighbor as nearly 1500 people will cast their vote at this polling station. After averaging over 60 voters an hour, the North Syracuse Central School building will close at 9 P.M.
