The Early (Voting) Bird Gets the Worm: Poll Sites Open At The Break of Day

Video

REPORTER (Liam Griffin): “Waking up early in the morning is never easy, but on Election Day, the poll here at Solvay Geddes Community Youth Center opened at 6 AM- before the sun rose in Central New York today. Citizens are eager to make sure their voices are heard.”

MILTON SUSTACHE: “I just wanted to get out there and be recognized, make sure my vote was counted, you know, there’s a lot of things that impact this year’s election.”

REPORTER: “Milton Sustache is a pipe cleaner in the area, and he’s worried about plenty of issues this year.”

SUSTACHE: “A lot of it is basically on crime, inflation costs, your day-to-day operations, general life, so I thought this year it was kind of important to get out there and vote.”

REPORTER: “Milton wasn’t the first to arrive though. Citizens started to file lines outside this polling site well before it opened. The large community attendance has Milton encouraged about the future.”

SUSTACHE: “I think it’s great, it shows that the people, we all care, and you know not just one person is going to make a difference, we all come out as a community, and it shows by being here this early in the morning, polls open at 6 and hey, 6:05 we’re here, it makes a big impact and a big difference and it shows that we really do care.”

REPORTER: “As Milton and other voters walked away, there was a palpable good feeling among them knowing the impact they had made. In Solvay, Liam Griffin, Democracy in Action.”
