Poll Site Manager: “A Matter of Civic Responsibility”

Marcellus, N.Y. (DIA) – Jim Dewan, 76, has been the poll site manager at Marcellus High School for the last 10 years. Dewan says it has been his duty to return each year to assist others in voting.

“I think it’s a matter of civic responsibility and responsibility to the community. I know a lot of the people here, many of them I grew up with,” he said. “I am very pleased when I see first-time voters come in.”

For Dewan, seeing first-time voters brings joy to his heart. He said that he believes all young adults should educate themselves on the political atmosphere in order to come out to vote intelligently.

“Vote, just flat out vote,” he said. “Vote intelligently, study the candidates, study their points. It is like a Syracuse University football game: they talk about the loud house, but why is it the loud house? Because you got thousands of single voices together in one space. The same thing with voting, one vote doesn’t make a difference but when I have 80,000 votes, you must be heard!”
