Syracuse voters return to the polls in 2021 after a year where absentee ballots were prominent.
Zach Vinci: ABSENTEE BALLOTS HAVE BECOME AN INTEGRAL PART OF THE VOTING PROCESS EVER SINCE THE 20-20 ELECTION. LAST YEAR ALMOST 17 PERCENT OF REGISTERED VOTERS VOTED ABSENTEE WHICH IS THE HIGHEST EVER IN ONONDAGA COUNTY ACCORDING TO THE ONONDAGA COUNTY BOARD OF ELECTIONS.
A LOCAL RETIRED PHARMACY TECHNICIAN, WALLACE BARKINS SR, SAYS THAT HE VOTES IN PERSON EVERY YEAR.
Wallace Barkins Sr.: I think it’s according to the person where they live and their age… It’s very easy I can get here in three minutes.
Zach Vinci: KAT DEACON IS A LOCAL WHO VOTED ABSENTEE IN 2020. HOWEVER SHE DECIDED TO VOTE IN PERSON THIS YEAR AT THE HILLSIDE WORK SCHOLARSHIP CONNECTION GYM.
Kat Deacon: Well I don’t have a problem with an absentee ballot, it’s just I didn’t get around to it so I’m here to vote in person!
Zach Vinci: DEACON ALSO SAID THAT WITH COVID SLOWING DOWN SHE THINKS IT WILL DRAW MORE PEOPLE TO VOTE IN PERSON.
