LIVERPOOL, N.Y. (DIA) — Election day is one of a few days every year when Central New Yorkers have the power to impact their communities. The voting process on election day in Liverpool is simple. Check in, vote, scan, and get a sticker. some people came alone, others with their young kids, but one, Tracey Standish, brought her mother to vote at the Ramada by Wyndham in Liverpool… something she feels needs to be done.

“I think it’s very important. I think everyone should vote in every election. It’s a great right to have,” Standish said about voting on Election Day.

Both she and her mother felt the importance of voting in person and ensuring their ballot was counted, something they’ve been doing for many years.

“Very important for me to vote. I vote all the time when I’m supposed to,” Stephens said about her motivation for voting.

Outside of their passion for the democratic process, both women concurred about multiple issues they wanted to address at the polls.

“The economy, healthcare, definitely, and the state of New York. The financial and economic outlook, jobs, important,” Standish said about what stood out to her on the ballot.

Stephens agreed and said that there needed to be drastic action taken to change things, part of the reason she went to vote.

“The way the country is run right now is awful. Everybody is either jobless, looking for jobs, the expense is outrageous, grocery stores, prices, everything,” Stephens said.

Standish, who did not vote in Liverpool because it was not her polling place, still went to take her mother because she knew how important it was to both of them that their voices were heard and that she would not have been at the hotel had her mother not wanted to vote.

She claimed she was going to vote later in the day and was lucky she didn’t have to work on Election Day, otherwise, she would have to vote very late at night. There was one reason she was at the polls in Liverpool.

“My mother, my mom. I’m helping her,” Standish said.
