SYRACUSE, N.Y. (Democracy In Action) — Hillary Clinton. Hello Kitty. Donald Trump. Spiderman.
Those were the four candidates listed on the ballot Tuesday for the Mundy Branch Library President Children’s Election. Maggie Foster, a librarian at Mundy Branch, got the idea when a tween asked her why he couldn’t vote.
“I just went to my boss and asked her if we could do a kids voting booth,” Foster said. “We don’t have to make it super serious.”
Foster said the kids were excited to be able to vote. A major part of the library’s election was to teach kids about the importance of voting.
There were two large sections of voters. Older tweens and teens were passionate about Trump or Clinton, meanwhile younger kids heavily debated the platforms of Hello Kitty and Spiderman.
“I think they’re having a blast with it,” Foster said. “I have a couple of the older tween patrons who partook of our Mundy Branch Library voting and are now going around basically conducting some kind of voter fraud.”
